Recently posted on the Bang Gangs Podcast site are two mixes done over a year ago. The first is from Ajax, click here to download/stream "The What to Play if You Have to Play House Mix". You should already know this dude for the remix I posted a week ago he did for The Valentinos (see below).

Someone attempted to fill in the tracklisting but only got like 60%. Anyway this is a killer mix even though it was made in 2005. Who gives a fuck. It makes you dance.

First snow in Minneapolis. Im not too psyched. Its fucking cold. So last night I had to opportunity to listen to the new LCD Soundsystem record Sounds of Silver. I was really happy for this experience only to find out the fucking record was leaked this morning! Hopefully DFA, EMI and Capitol make an effort to seal these leaks because this record is amazing and should not end being scrapped because it is already floating about.

On another DFA note, I had the chance to see and hang out with another possible DFA signees this weekend. Unfortunately, due to contractual issues still up in the air, I was asked not to mention their name as some of their demo tracks are already floating around in the blogosphere. But expect to be pleasantly surprised soon from DFA.

Anyway,some new tunes. As always OhMyGosh has hooked up new Rekorder and Kaliber tracks on their site. In the style of their previous tracks (dark, frightening techno), this recent track does not disappoint.

Here are two tracks of one of the later Hot Chip single releases. I really like this Booka Shade remix, it even compliments the Hot Chip remix of Darko quite nicely as well. The Maurice Fulton doesnt really go to crazy, but still a smooth jam. They are playing here in Minneapolis this Saturday (11/11) at First Avenue. Go check them out.

Its quite amazing Ive never posted DFA material up here before knowing my background. Well I think its because we all know that they are all over bloggers posting their tunes. And its been a minute since new shit has come from their West Village studio. But things will be changing in the next 6 months or so. Juan is back in the studio with numerous new tracks complete, LCD is on their way (looking at a Spring '07 release date for their as yet untitled sophmore LP) as well as numerous new acts including The Loving Hand, Prinz Horn Dance School and others (hush hush).

Juan has been touring like a mad man (Im not refering to that ATL incident). He will be hiting up numerous dates in Australia in November to play dates with Modular Record artists. Check out this remix he did for local Aussies The Presets. I hear Dancehall Modulator meeting Titos Way. Two of my favortie tracks, so yes, I like this remix.

Im sure everyone has this one at this point. I like certain parts of this alot, but Mylo kinda dissapoints at sometimes. After the vocals in the first three minutes, I was expecting it to get bigger, but it kinda bores out in the middle two minutes. But it picks back up. Either way, surely this will delite most.

This next track is my song of the week. It came from Nik (Normals Welcome) up in Edmonton, from his band Shout Out Out Out Out which I first heard about through Gangs of Neon. After posting a remix of one of their other tracks last week, I got word from Nik and it turns it out we have worked together in the past a few times when I was back in NYC. Small world.
Anyway, this track "Self Loathing Rulz" is remixed by this guy (new to me) Malente. Apparently he is under same management as Digitalism, Play Paul and Boyz Noize among others. Its a crazy out there electroy dance off. Its just pretty fucking awesome.

It sounds like a Diplo production (on top of which I got it off his mySpace page. Sounds like a "Whisper" track meets Chicago jook but in a Balitmore club. I dont know what I think. So many times I get emails and posts asking for me to put stuff back up or for me to email them tracks and thats fine. If I have the time, Ill do what I can do. But I get really psyched when people take the time to send me their own music. And honestly it makes me feel pretty good that these people want me to promote their music. Makes me feel Im actually doing something with this fucking site.

Anyway, the following two tracks come from a duo named Guns N' Bombs. Made up of Johnny Love and Turbotito (SORRY ABOUT THE SPELLING MISTAKE EARLIER!!), these two have teamed up to make some dark electro-disco comparable to that of Sebastian, Para-One and the other Ed Bangers. OK so the hiatus has given me a chance to accumlate some killer tracks which is always refreshing.

From his debut album "Smorgasbord" on Playtime Records, the first track is from artist Mike Monday. This is a killer retro sounding techno track. Some of the other cuts from this album are really good as well. Check out OhMyGosh for more sounds.

I have never been into the Brazilian Girls so much, but this remix is pretty good. A good Daft Punk twist to it (even though the cowbells are a bit of a rip off).

A massive electro hipster rock remix from Para One. Certain dancefloor shit like this and Skitzo Dancer are just straight up fun shit.

I like this one way more than the Spank Rock remix. Just harder and raver-esq.

Spank Rock - Bump (Switch Remix)

I really love the remixes Switch does. This one starts out a little bit slower than the other ones, but eventually grows into a dope song. This is for sure his longest track, so have some patience.

So I posted 5.3 a while back, and even touted it as one of my favorite tracks of the year. But at least for this week, this track has been on repeat. I love the darkness of this track. Its haunting.

So I am definatley a hater of the "chill out" mix. They imply boutique hotels and a rash of bands/groups I wont mention as I dont want to offend anyway, but anyway, I needed to chill out today. It was Sunday, I had gone out the previous evening and was hurting this morning. The sky was grey and its was just constant drippings of rain like I were in England in Novemeber or March. I had school work I needed to do, laundry starting to smell in the bathroom and cleaning which was long over due. So I decided to put together a little iTunes mix to get me through the day.

So my Firefox browser unexpectadly quit just as I was about to post this, how fucking irritating can computers be? Anyway, let me start again.

I was just saying, there was another hurricane type thing in Minneapolis today with hail the size of orange Runts and horizontal rain. Fucking madness really. Branches falling, pellting from falling ice....Anyway, i thought to myself how much nicer would it to be somewhere sunnier, say like Sesame Street....Especially now that Im so heated by my faulty software, I could bring my mind to a nice calming place such as "The Street".

What better way to kick off things with an unlikely pairing of the immortal (literally) Cookie Monster and the likewise Larry Levan. Now besides being in the studio with Timbaland, I dont think I could imagine a cooler studio session to be a fly on the wall. I mean, do you think the C. Monster rolls deep with an entourage or just solo? I mean no one would fuck with him on the street surely. Dood lives in a trash can, how grimey is that? But than I'm sure he's got someone carrying a case of cookies at all time. An obviously the best.

Im sitting at my desk tonight (yes its Satuday night and Im sitting at my desk...fuck you), but notice out my window a massive amount of fireworks going off. Like a serious amount. Not the dynamic shapes (smiley faces and cubes) I saw in NYC this past 4th, but a good 20 minutes of serious mortars and my favorite "lingering palm trees". Im digging through mP3s I want to post and making a little playlist so my A.D.D. mind can remember (though my mind will change later).
Well anyway, it turns out these fireworks are in honor of Colombian independance day. Pretty fucking sweet. I mean this display is up there with the Fourth of July in any city. Gotta love Colombia, the land which has given us Cocaine and Coffee.
Quick music note, I am listening to Cluster's album Sowiesoso which is brilliant even when your not watching fireworks stoned. Pick it up. Its like Richard James making Selected Ambient works in 1974. Brilliant.

Now he's the only lasting member (though some would debate Juvenile is still on top). So as I mentioned when I first started this page, I really have no idea what I am going to post, except its just what Im feeling over the course of a day or a few days. Sometimes they are rare gems I want to share with everyone, or they are just random shit I collected from other various internet resources or companions. Today Ive just been in a good mood finally, and when I am in a good mood that only means one thing....gay dance party (yay).

Now I dont necessarily mean thumb in my bum gay, but just tits out hands in the air give a fuck all about anything else dance party. Im not a dancer really unless Ive had a few drinks, but I love when other people just go ass out and dont give a shit and have fun....isnt that really what we're all here for anyway? Especially in these stiffling summer months, a dance party can really help out. Yes you usually end up getting soaked in sweat and your face is bright red, but the best part is that if the party is being done correctly, so is everyone else around you....that is they all look like stupid tits, but the times are killer, right?

So I've been gone....for a while...but Im back. Between my trip back to NYC and begining school again, I have been inundated with shit to do. Unfortunatley blogging wasn't to far up there on my list, but I am going to hit you up with some gems to make up for lost time....

Alright, the first track was created in 1968 by 15 year old guitarist/singer Jay Kaye (JK & Co.). Aparently many consider his album Suddenly One Summer to be the basis for Radioheads OK Computer. I can definatley see the comparisons, but when I think about this kid 15 years old making this album almost 40 fucking years ago. Thats pretty cool.

J.K. & Co. - Fly

Now for a bit of fun... This track is a real prize. its a one-off private-press lp released in 1981 by one-time tangerine dream/kluster associate conrad schnitzler and given only to friends and family. the b-side is pretty odd, even for schnitzler, with its pitched up vocals & arbitrary lo-fi synth drippings; but the real prize is the a-side featuring his teenage son gregor on electric bass and completely fried vocals as run through conrad’s massive modular synth rig.

Moving up another 10 years now comes a track from the Code 6 (aka Joey Beltram) who released a few records on Nu Grooves. This is a killer classic cut (I believed reissued and available from Turntable Lab).

So I am heading home back to NYC for a while so Im going to do a post to keep you occupied while I am gone. Well "you" is really my #1 fan Justin (aka Meatwad) but you few others who check this site, its for you to.
First of all I would like to address something which has come to my attention through a few disgruntled emails I have received regarding my postings. There seems to be a problem among the internet community about my postings of already "blogged" songs....I am sorry if this upsets some of you, but my site is about songs that I am into, which most likely will be songs other people will be into. And I also post things I want my friends to hear. The only people I am trying not to offend are the artists and the labels (which I have yet to received complaints from anyway). So anyone I upset by treding on your feet, Im sorry.
And on that note Im going to post the fuck out of a bunch of shit Im feeling today.
Im really into parties. Not necessarily "partying" but the environment in which a party is taking place. If anyone hasnt seen the film "Maestro", please do. It is regarding the unerground dance culture that was the Paradise Garage and the Loft in 1980s New York City. Parties back than were not what they were today. They were not places to be seen and talked about, but rather places to be yourself. Places to let yourself go.

Check out the download of this mixtape from Chicago DJ and House music pioneer Ron Hardy from 1983. Thanks to 'Detroit is for Lovers" (see links to the right) for the download.
The quality isnt great, but what can you do with a casette which is 13 years old....well I could probably enhance it but deal with it. Its 45 minutes of classic Garage/Disco music which will bring you back to the days when the Music Box was the place to be.

Just watched 24 Hour Party People, again, and was inspired to post some Hacienda era tracks. There has been a recent burst of Hacienda mixes (see the EMI release of "Hacienda Classics" selected by New Order's Peter Hook) and below I've put down a few that may have been overlooked (or that I just like more).

The first is from what could have been supergroup 'Electronic' which featured New Order's Bernard Sumner and The Smith's guitarist Johnny Marr. The track "Free Will" is more of a dancefloor dubbed out remix for "Perfect Kiss".

Among my all time favorite artist is definatley Aphex Twin. When I heard that his Overlord series was going to finally come out on one comprehensive CD, I was psyched, and when I got it, I wasnt dissapointed. After not really feeling Hangable Auto Bulb, being more of an early years Aphex fan, I was relieved when the more straighfoward techno orientated "Chosen Lords" was released. I'm posting one of my more favorable tracks from the album below.

This next artist I was first turned onto when I heard his dope Fabric (08 i think) mix. Radioactive Man (Keith Tenniswood) is one half of Two Lone Swordsmen, who a few years ago released a compilation of his work dating from the early 90's. A great compilation of British techno, this CD is worthwhile purchase. Check out the tracks below. Also check out the Radioactive Man Fabric mix. Its old but still really good. And speaking of Two Lone Swordsmen, if you dont already have the Andrew Weatherall Fabric mix, that is also a must. Buy them both.

Some good tracks to post today. The new remix of Para One by MSTRKFT is really good. One of their heavier dance tunes which features an awesome rave whistle and awesome building mountain of vocal samples and screeching synths. These guys are in need of dropping a remix album (for more stellar than their solo efforts for sure).

With similarities to Gang of Four and A Certain Ratio, its clear why. Than I began hearing about them again the past Spring. So to be honest I'm not sure whether the following track is off of an older record or a recent release, but its still good.

Cant post the following songs in fear that "the man" may come crashing through my windows the minute I hit upload, but Timbaland has been putting out some fire. Check out "Afraid", "Glow" and "Say it Right" off of the new Nelly Furtado album "Loose" as well as the track he did for the new Busta called "Get Down" (though I'm pretty sure Timbalands got a few tracks with the same name already).

Speaking of the Busta Rhymes album, the enitre thing is hot. First CD I've gone out and bought on release day in a while. Stevie Wonder, Dr Dre and Busta on the same song!! I remember that first Aftermath compilation which came out like 10 years ago and people were doubting Dre post Death Row. "The Big Bang" is a good reminder how far from the case that was. If only he stuck with the Rakim and Rass Kass projects. There is a track floating around there that didnt make the cut for "The Big Bang" called "Whoop" which features Rass Kass. Fire.

Its producers like Dr. Dre and Timbaland who make platnium records, but they also make records platnium. They dont abide by release dates, but rather release dates are accomodated to their liking....Makes me hope the Neptunes step it up soon. Will Pharrell ever release his long awaited solo record? And how about the Clipse. Is "Mr Me Too" just another teaser like the year old "Pussy"...Mmmm

MSTRKRFT - She's Good For Business

Im totally up in the air about this album. Super hyped in the remix world, I wont lie, I was definatly feeling some of their remixes, and I wasnt disappointed when I got a few of their album tracks. Their second single "Work On You", the follow up to the hipster hit "Easy Love", was equally as danceable, but "She's Good for Business" has definatley got a hot summer vibe to dance your ass to.

Basteroid -Meteorchester

This track is hot. The sounds used are more interesting than the actual track itself. The dark and sinister synths are made even more frightful alongside the playful harpsicord. The addition of the various rave sounds make this a dancefloor killer at say 2AM.

DONDOLO - FIRE BREATHING (SHIT ROBOT REMIX)

Like many of the epic DFA releases, this is a track which takes you on a fucking mental mind fucking journey from the disco dancefloor to the point when your jumping so high pieces of the ceiling are falling down on you....but you dont give a shit.

Paul Jackson - Souls (Oliver Koletzki remix)

Im also learning, Ive heard a few remixes from Oliver Koletzki and they are all awesome, including this one....especially this one. There are many elements to this remix I am feeling, from the dark synths in the begining to the bouncing drum breaks in the middle. Solid track through and through.

So I'm not going to lie, I've been a total hater. Not in a total player hater type of way, but I've always sort of, well, ragged on the blog world for too long. My ideas of blogs always related to livejournal, the minute to minute trackings of Conor Oberst, and the inner thinkings of overly depressed 16 year old emo kids trying to release their angst into cyberspace. And I still feel the same way, but I realize there is so much more than just that.
Through my site, BLK:MRKT, I am going to mainly focus on music (and a bit on me, because lets face it, there has got to be a tiny bit of egocentricity involved in making your own website).
My taste in music spans through time and sounds. I cannot put my finger on exactly what I like, so I am hoping through this site I can peel off some of the onion skin and allow you into my mind.
